blood test

Good Afternoon Dr.

First I want to thank you for all of your work here.

I have a question that I haven't seen asked yet. I am an African American male who had un-protected sex with an African American female of unknown status. We were both married. Intercourse started out protected, but the condom slipped off. At this time her period was down. We continued for a few more minutes before stopping. I did not *** in her, but undoubtedly fluids were exchanged. A few weeks later I scheduled a doctor's appointment and was too ashamed to mention what had happened. I didn't get an HIV test specifically, but she did draw blood and take a urine sample. When the results came back she didn't mention anything about HIV, only high cholestorol, etc. My specific question to is, will normal blood & urine tests detect HIV? or should I have gotten a specific HIV test? Like i said, I got my blood draw a few weeks after the episode, and haven't gotten tested since.

Please Help!

Nope they do not detect HIV.
HIV is more common amongst african-americans as far as I know.
However, HIV amongst heterosexuals is still pretty rare. Specially amongst the middle class and up.
People in powerty are always at highest risk when it comes to drugs and thereby infectious diseases.

So unless she's the kind of girl that hangs around drug users I wouldnt worry about it.
