Group N and P?

I know in my previous post I was told my test is conclusive but I need to know if my test would cover group N and P? Because I’m the FDA insert for the rest I had which was 4th generation Abbott architect combo, it only says it tests for group M & O. I know N and P are rare and only found in AFRICA but how can I be sure where the person I had unprotected sex with has been?! Maybe he did go to Cameroon..what do i do now?

There are multitude tests on the market.  No one here is intimately familiar with the specifics of each test, and some are regionally-specific.  Call the manufacturer if you have questions.  That's the only thing anyone can tell you.

Your obsession with these groups is irrational.  You are assuming that 1) your partner was HIV+, 2) had traveled to Cameroon and had intercourse and contracted HIV there, and 3) You contracted HIV from a one-time event, despite the odd of that happening being 0.06%.  The odds of all three of those being true are astronomical.

In any case, no one here can assist with your highly-specific question.

By regionally specific does that mean one should test in the same country one had the exposure in? I had my exposure in America but tested in a European country one year later.. would that mean the test used in Europe would also not be reliable if I contracted a strain in America?
Also I’ve read similar questions on here and those people were all told that any antibody tests would cover all groups..why am I being told that may not be the case?
Call the test manufacturer or discuss your concerns with the clinic that gave you the test.
Ok just please answer the other question. If you have an exposure do you have to test in the same country?!
The only time that would EVER be recommended is if you, personally, traveled to a country with a high prevalence of a specific HIV group and had unprotected intercourse with someone who is HIV+.   Your situation is NOTHING like that, and you are allowing irrational thoughts to cloud your judgement.  This is the last response from me. If you cannot let this go, seek professional counseling.
This forum is not even helpful. I know you guys are volunteers but you’re all so rude and abrupt. Why do you bother volunteering if you dont have the patience or knowledge to help people? This forum is the reason I have a concern about these different groups. I read questions about hiv groups on here in the first place. And to those people you all said “all the tests detect all groups/strains”. But to me you are giving a different answer. So there’s no cohesion either on this forum. It seems you all just say whatever you feel like saying on the day. I have just gone and read the FDA inserts of literally 10 different hiv antibody tests and none of them state they detect groups N or P. They only detect M & O. I don’t even understand what to do if none of the tests in the market even detect the groups I’m concerned about.
If you are unhappy with the responses you received here, then you are free to call the manufacturer, as suggested multiple times, or work with your personal physician.  Our members are not under any obligation to do intensive research for you, nor to know the details about every single test on the market, in every geographic location.  No one here owes you anything at all.

Call the test manufacturer or discuss your concerns with the clinic that gave you the test.  We can't possibly be familiar with every HIV test manufactured.  Most tests distributed at this time cover all strains/variants.

You really should forget about this and move on, though. Your event was extremely low risk.  A one-time encounter of vaginal sex only carries about an 0.04% risk of infection.

Wow so does that mean everyone who gets an Abbott combo test could be infected with a group that is not covered?! And they could be going around thinking they are negative but actually be infected! Wow that’s a strange thought. I’ve checked many FDA inserts for different HIV tests and none of them check for group N and P.  The clinic does not know either they told me it covers HIV 1 and 2. They don’t know anything beyond.
NO, that's not what it means at all.  It means that I am not going to do the investigative work for you to fix your anxiety issue.  Call the test manufacturer.  Abbott has a website and I'm sure you can find the phone number there.
Ok but in your knowledge what test checks group N and P then?! It’s not like I have a choice in my city..the labs all offer the same tests..
