testing question

I had unprotected sex with a female of unknown status.

I am about six months from this encounter, I am going to test.

I wanted to know if along with the a/b test, I should include a DNA/PCR?
I don't care about spending the money, the question is is there any value in adding this test?

Thanks for your help.

First of all you should have tested at 3 months and a simple antibody test will do--you don't require a DNA by PCR--that's a VL test.

The RNA is more accurate than the DNA but at 6 months all you require is an antibody test.

Had you looked up the test is does say what they are FDA approved for.

thanks,

all those testing companies who push the test should state that fact,( not FDA approved) and not claim its the most accurate method available.

there playing on peoples fear.

You can be 100% certain with an antibody test.

DNA tests are not diagnostic tests and not approved for HIV diagnostic use.

Thanx,

I didn't test because I didn't have a new relationship until now. I know vaginal sex is on the lower end on the risk scale.

The antibody test alone is fully reliable at this point? I heard the DNA gives some false positives. But I want to test and be 100% certain.

You don't need any other test than an antibody test.
