Test confusion

I want to test for HIV after an exposure of unprotected sex. It’s been 8 months. Which test am I supposed to use? The PCR or 4th gen antibody/antigen test?

Also, is there an AIDS test too or is it just for HIV?

8 months is a long time you can take any test anytime now

Really? The lab mentioned 4th generation test but had options like ELISA, EIA, CMIA. Not sure what that means

What type of unprotected sex was it? Vaginal, anal or oral? ANY test you take now is conclusive. I'd go for a 4th generation test but any test, any generation after this amount of time will give you an accurate result.

Vaginal. But I’m confused about tests like PCR RNA & PCR DNA. And also is there something known as AIDS test or is it just an HIV test that we should test for?
I'm sure you know the meaning of "any" so it is time to move on and test, instead of repeating the same question, over and over.
Well, a PCR is not a diagnostic test according to your forum, I just read that it’s not the right test. Why are you saying any test is fine? And I’m not getting a response to my second and third questions so why are you being rude?!
Since you are responding to my answer, I'll comment. You were answered accurately. Just take a test, any test it will be accurate. Please stop over posting.
Ok so a PCR rna is okay to take after 8 months? And can you please tell me if there is also an AIDS test or is it just HIV test? I don’t know why you don’t answer these questions. That’s why I have to keep asking again and again.
Why would you take an early detection test at 8 months. I feel like you WANT to stay stuck. It will give you a conclusive result but as I stated the BEST test to take is a 4th generation Duo test.  Just take a test. A one time exposure to HIV is LESS THAN ONE PERCENT chance of transmission IF the other person is HIV positive (ZERO if they are not). Understand that your risk was LOW. Get your negative and move on.
That’s what I was asking in my initial question!! I was asking which test to take whether PCR or antibody antigen and you kept saying take any test! Without explaining that PCR is not the right test!
Is there also an AIDS test? And does it matter if the 4th gen test I take is EIA OR CMIA OR CLIA? I don’t understand these terms but my lab has different options
On your forum it says PCR tests need to be backed by antibody tests so why are you saying it will give me a conclusive result? There is so much conflicting information seriously worrying
Your question was answered and we're about done here. Is the PCR test the best to take 8 months after an exposure (sure you haven't tested before or posted before here as your level of anxiety indicates you likely HAVE). We answered to take A test. All 4th generation and 3rd generation tests are accurate at this point. Why are you fixating on PCR test. I"m going to get a moderator involved as you are going in circles. TAKE A TEST. ANY TEST and move on. Take a 3rd generation (accurate from 12 weeks on) or a 4th generation test (accurate from 28 days and on). But just take one and please stop the obsessive questions.
PCR tests are early detection tests. They are taken for that reason. Most don't take it 8 months down the line. It would give you your negative (you are most assuredly negative and really? This level of anxiety and you haven't taken any other tests???? ) but it would be better to take a 4th or 3rd generation test. But your anxiety has you stuck and WE can't help with that. Only you can by recognizing it.
Alright I get it now, you were making me go round in circles. But yet again I am also asking about an AIDS test and you are not answering. Is there such a thing as an AIDS test or do we only have to test for HIV? And lastly does it matter if the 4th gen test is CMIA OR any other method?
Ok I get it now. But again is there such a thing as an AIDS test or do we only have to test for HIV?
Aids is the old name for HIV. It's the same.
Great, take care.
