Why is it that they havent made a better way of Elisa or anything? its so a old way to find HIV. The Elisa test is like 20-25 years old. and they still use it? Why.

Well the prevalence of hiv in the nordic countries (Sweden, Denmark and Norway) is almost the same than in the whole western europe, 0.1%-0.2% and they are not hidding the issue, the good thing in Europe is that people get a very good sexual education in the schools so people are aware of the risk since early age, also they dont have restrictions on buying new seringes or neddles then reducing the risk of hiv transmission through IV drug users. Myself being Italyan and knowing how the nordic countries policies work, I really suspect they would be using the latest and newer technology avalaible, I dont now if you realize that you are from the zone of the world with the biggest life standars, so please dont worry about the generation of anything else, we already told you that you didnt have a risk, if you want to learn more about hiv these are the best places you can look.

I don't think the reagent strips are still available in earlier generations, well they aren't for some manufacturers' machines.
The 4th generation reagent strips are drop in replacements for earlier gen reagent strips on the same machine in some instances.

ELISA is used because it is cheap, easy, require a low level of skill to run. An absolutely sterile environment isn't required either, nor great power requirements so the technology is useable in environmens such as developing countries.

i think .1 percent of the population is a low incidence of hiv, every elisa test is good at 3 months, that you have been told already, with each generation of test they get to detect a little bit earlier, elisa has been used to detect many viruses other than hiv, its an extremely reliable way to test for a virus, to culture for the virus takes to long. i doubt if they still use first generation test unless its home access test, also rapid test like oraquick are equilivant to 2 nd gen testing. again extremely accurate at 3 months,

Thx for that site... but ECN  i see you know alot about HIV I Appcient it... the problem is in Denmark there isnt so many HIV + .. so they are hidding the problem a bit... its like 4000-5000 out of about 6 mil people that have HIV. Why is it they say 3 mounts is that where there will be enough antibodis to see it?... and why is it a test cant see if there is like a exampel : 3 antibodies against HIV.

Every generation is conclusive at 3 months, the newer generation like the 4th generation is more accurate and it detectes the antibodies eralier and also detectes the p24 antigen, so it reduces the window period, the problem is that in the whole world not all the countries have the posibility of biying the newest technology and therefore continue using the 2nd and 1st generation tests, if you want to learm more about hiv testing please read this link is very good.

There is a lot of new tests but elisa is just the type of test, there are 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation of elisas, and there continue to be a lot of research for new tests, the newest teste tend to be rapid test accurate as elsia tests, there has been also improvement also in the NAAT tests, and some labs are trying to come up with a new 5th generation rapid test (PCR+Antibody+p24) but is not ready yet.
