Testing question

I am a little confused. I went to a proceed today, the girl refused to test me. She said I tested in Feb that I would only be able to test in May which would be 3 months total. My exposure was beginning of December. She said that if I test in May 18th that the is the completion of my 6 months. I thought that would be only 5 months.

Also, she stated that when I did the test in Feb that it covered all of jan, all of dec and all of nov and before that- meaning I was negative from my December exposure in Feb. I thought the way it worked is:

I count from dec 1st- 3 months- would be march 1st. And then 6 months would be June 1st.

She's saying count dec jan feb(3 months) and then Dec-may is 6 months.

I just need a little explanation. Thank you.

Thank you everyone. It is very unfortunate, you'd think with HIV that any clinic would always be ontop of new updates. Really quite sad.

Thank you again everyone for taking the time to answer my worries.

Unfortunately, not everyone has changed their policies to conform with current guidelines, and there isn't anything you can do to change that.

Thanks for all the good info. I wish I could tell the testing people that but when I said to them I thought it was 3 months she looked at me like I was an idiot. Saying she had just told me 3-6 mo. That's ridiculous that they allow people doing testing who are supposed to educate on testing say misinformation.

the CURRENT testing guideline states that 3 months IS conclusive.  this is supported by the fda, cdc, and manufacturers of the tests

But even the planned parenthood I went to also said 6 months. Is this just a scared tactic or extra cushion just in case someone is lieing about their exposure or doesn't remember. It's so weird, why add on an additional scary 3 months. If 3 is all that is needed.

Ask them. FDA approved the 3 month antibody test years and years ago.

Whatever day your exposure was count 3 months. So say it was Dec 1st. Then March 1st is 3 months.

3 months is conclusive from the day of your exposure.
