HIV Risk?

Hi,

I am a young female and about a month ago I attended an acupuncture appointment, where I had acupuncture performed on me.. I know the practice use all single-use needles, however, whilst my needles were in he attended to another patient and when he came back to pull my needles out I asked him if he had washed his hands after placing needles in the other patient. He said he hadn't but it was alright but then made a point to rub hand sanitizer over his hands... he then pulled the needles out and performed a massage on me... Is there any risk of hiv transmission here because of the no hand washing? Are acupuncture needle holes an open enough wound to contract hiv if he did have some blood on his hands?

The reason I am concerned is that two weeks after the appointment I came down with a sore throat and slight fever with no other symptoms, I may have just got a chill cause it is winter here in Australia. However, two weeks after I had those symptoms my partner has been diagnosed with strep throat with white spots on the back of his throat.. Coincidence?? We have always used contraception and each have had only one sexual partner before each other... When I asked my boyfriend if they did a culture for his throat he said no, he was prescribed antibiotics by the look of his throat only, so that is why I am concerned that it might be HIV. DO you think I have any reason to be?

The activities you have mentioned are not a risk for hiv.

Leave your hiv concern behind and move on with your life.

USE CONDOMS for penetrative sex and you will remain hiv negative!!!!

GOOD LUCK AND ALL THE BEST!!!!

Not an HIV concern.

HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.

HIV is transmitted by;
Unprotected penetrative anal and/or vaginal sex
Sharing works with other IV drug users
Mother to child
