Pregnant-Recurrent Oral Thrush-HIV Negative

Hi,

So from December 2006 to October 2008 I was with a boyfriend. We did anal once in that time and had lots of protected sex and I had a lot of unprotected oral. I later found out he was cheating on me several times including with call girls online. (Prostitutes). We ended up breaking up and I was tested for HIV soon after (dont know if it was in the right window period) and was negative. I also donated blood several times since then. I met my husband August 2009. We both have been faithful and I am pregnant with my first child. (We also were both tested for HIV in 2015 and were negative). I was tested for HIV during my pregnancy now and was found negative 3 times. Recent one was 2 days ago. (Almost 9.5 yrs since my last exposure)

Reason I am worried is because I had bacterial vaginosis and was treated with Flagyl at 23 weeks. Two weeks later I was diagnosed with oral thrush. I am on my third round of nystatin oral mouth wash swish and spit and the oral thrush just keeps coming back. It was been 2 months with this now. I can't swallow the meds because I am pregnant. Is this recurrent oral thrush because I'm pregnant making me immunosuppressed or are my HiV results false negatives? (Each test was the HIV1 HIV2 combo Ab/Ag test). I am sorry I am so neurotic, just pregnancy has my nerves in overdrive.

Thrush was likely caused by the Flagyl.  Could be lowered immune system function due to pregnancy, but you can rest assured it is NOT HIV.  Your tests are conclusively negative, and modern tests to not miss HIV infections.  You could try eating probiotic yogurt, or taking probiotic supplements.  Both usually help with thrush.

Thank you!! I have been on mothers select probiotic now for over a month and eating low calorie activia. I just hope it goes away once I give birth. Very uncomfortable. And my doc said once I give birth she can give me diflucan so hopefully that works. I am due in 5 weeks and 5 days. Hopefully it goes away before then, but no luck yet.
