HIV risk and concern

Hello,

My girlfriend is HIV positive and we have been together for almost 1 year. We always use condoms for sex but occasionally have unprotected oral sex. My problem is that I become very worried about getting HIV and find myself going for tests every few months, becoming quite panicked before doing so. From what I have read on here, there is no risk of contracting HIV from protected sex or from oral sex giving/receiving. If this is indeed true, do I never need to get myself tested unless a condom breaks, or should I get tested periodically (and if so how often)? Why would I need testing if I am not engaging in risky activity? I am sorry if my thoughts seem a bit jumbled but I am just trying to understand what my level of risk is and whether or not I will be able to deal with it in the long-run. Thank.

From what I understand you would not need HIV testing if you use condoms properly and without failure. In regards to oral sex, it seems that HIV testing would not be needed as well. I completely understand your anxiety. Perhaps an emergency plan (where to obtain PEP in the shortest amount of time)  for condom failure would be a better strategy than testing every few months.

oral sex is no risk for HIV but its a risk for other std's gonorrhea chlamydia ...
its better to get checked on std's rather than hiv if she had any std's with her HIV
