Hiv oraquick swab accuracy?

Hi, Straight to the point. I had unprotected sex with a woman over 1 month ago. I purchased an HIV oraquick swab test and took it exactly 30 days after the encounter. The test read negative. How accurate will the test be at this period of testing?

It is a good indication but not conclusive until 84 days. From many of the expert posts, some will test positive earlier than others, but to be definitive, one should wait 84 days via the swab test. I also understand that the test itself is very accurate IF taken after 84 days and IF the instructions are followed. The false negative rate is slightly higher than the false positive rate due to what Oraquick's helpline describes as user error. They advised pending the test is correctly it has a 99% accuracy rate either way.

I understand completely but what I think Im trying to ask is, is my one month result assuring enough to say that when I take the test again it will be negative?

It is a good indication but as Oraquick is only certified to be reliable at 84 days, you cannot use this to get a conclusive results. You can only get a conclusive results at 28 days (or 42 days if we use the CDC) from a duo test. After that, POC rapid test or Oraquick can give you an answer conclusive at 84 days.

Ok, i understand to get a conclusive result would be 3 months but is my test result at least reliable.

Since your Oraquk isn't conclusive it is not reliable, just like you can't be half pregnant. Do the duo and then you don't have to think about it again or wait for day 84.

Oraquick is only conclusive at 84 days (3months). However, at this point in time, you can do a duo (ab/ag) test and it will be conclusive according to most experts (CDC says 42 days).
