Should my results be considered conclusive or should I tear again?

I am a straight man. I had a one time encounter, unprotected vaginal sex, with a woman that I know. As far as I know she has had no health issues but without testing, her status is unknown to me. It is now 21 days past one and only possible exposure. At 13 days I had a HIV RNA test done at quest labs which came back negative and also at 17 days I had a 4th gen duo for antibodies and p24 taken which came back negative also. Are my results conclusive or should I be tested again?

If I am to retest, when? And will the oraquick oral swab antibody test be ok for the retest?

A common theme on this forum is being very anxious.  A one time sexual encounter is very low risk AND it was with a low risk person when you say it was someone you know.  It is very doubtful she had HIV.  It is very doubtful that you contracted it from a one time exposure. The guidelines are that you should test with a DUO 4th generation test at 28 days or any test at 6 weeks.  You tested too early for conclusive results but I would not expect your result to change.

What about the HIV RNA test negative at 13 days?

Said window period for this test is 9-11 days.

Just wondering how accurate this test is at 13 days?

Yes, that is a good sign and would not expect that result to change.  That result is a very good indicator but not conclusive.  Again, I would not expect the result to change.

So if I test again with 4th gen duo at 28 days and test is negative then results will be conclusive?

Hi all,

Here are my results thus far. HIV RNA test at 13 days, Negative. 4th gen duo test at 17 days, 27 days, and 38 days, All Negative.

Do I need further testing, or are my results conclusive?

As previously advised in this thread, the 4th generation is conclusive at 28 days and beyond.  Time to stop testing and move on.
