Negative HIV but continuous symptoms

Hi,

On the 3rd of March I had sex with a girl and there was a lot of blood unprotected vagina sex.

A few days later I was flying back from the US to Australia and the diarrhoea started. I also developed a white tongue and fatigue about two weeks later.

It hasn’t stopped since and it’s now been 8 weeks.

I got a HIV test at 4 weeks. DUO and had a finger prick test at 6 weeks followed with a blood test. It came back negative as well.

All other blood tests and stool tests came back negative.

I still have the symptoms and it’s not going away. No one seems to know what it is.

Could it be delayed antibody production? I mean I did get a DUO that didn’t pick up anything as well.

Appreciate the responses.

Thanks.

Of course,  I understand that. But when symptoms don't go away, you start asking questions, especially it being that the window period is sooo long!

There are many potential causes of the symptoms you list but you are focusing on the one that needs to be ruled out, so it is unrealistic for you to continue trying to do a doctor's job of diagnosing.

Hi Guys, Still having symptoms. Diarrhoea stopped with anti botics and white tongue with thrush went down. but then came back as soon as I finished the round. Still going a persistant cough with phlegm, diarrhea and white dry tongue and neck pain. Is it possible that the anitbodies and p24 can be delayed?

Could it all just be delayed?

Reread about the "move on" part. You don't have any medical training, so it is unrealistic for you to continue to try to diagnose disease - especially since your symptoms are what everyone else gets once in a while.

Thank you for your response.

I believe I did have another one at 6 weeks! It’s just doing my head in that they can’t find what’s wrong.

If the second test at 6 week mark was also a Duo, relax and move on with your life. You do not have HIV. See a physician for the complaints you have, of course not due to HIV

4th generation Duo test is highly sensitive and very reliable. It excludes the infection conclusively after 4 weeks of exposure. It is capable of detecting p-24 antigen, a protein associated with the core of the virus, therefore minimizing the possibility of "false negative" in the rare group of people with late seroconversion.

Possibility of contracting the infection from a single isolated incident of unprotected sex with someone of unknown health status, is not significant, though it is not Zero either. Therefore you have many odds in your favor.

It is believed that you are fine. You may repeat the Duo test any time now to reaffirm and lay your residual worries to rest permanently. Rest assured, your test result will not be different from what you got so far.

Seek medical help for the symptoms you mentioned, certainly not due to HIV.
