Pityriasis Rosea

Hello,

Two weeks ago, I spent two days in Bangkok on my way to a business meeting.  Long story short, is that those were two days filled with most of the experiences Bangkok has to offer.  The long and the short of it is that I had several encounters with sex workers, mainly for erotic massages and the like.  I did not have penetrative sex, nor did I receive any oral sex from them at any time.  I did however, stupidly might I add, give oral sex on one occasion, and insert my fingers into several vaginas through out the course of those two days.  I do not recall now if I had any cuts or cracked skin on my fingers at that time, but I would say it is certainly a possibility.  I also suffer from bleeding gums from time to time, and can not be sure that the inside of my mouth is 100% intact.

Upon my return, I started to see some red/pink oval or round shaped patches on my wrist, and forearm.  The paces are small (almost the size of a pea), and do not itch.  Then a couple of days after that, I started to experience extreme fatigue, slightly high temperature (37.8C, 100.04F) and flu symptoms (runny nose, etc).  Naturally I begin to panic, as this is somewhat consistent with the symptoms of an Acute HIV Infection.  I went to see a dermatologist, who diagnosed my case as Pityriasis Rosea.  He said there is no real cause for concern, and that HIV is an unlikely scenario.  I am also doing a PCR test, since a regular HIV screening test will show negative at this point, but have to wait 7 days for the result.

Needless to say I am pretty anxious.  I've been pretty stupid I know.  In the meantime, I see more and more patches mainly on my upper forearms, and my trunk area.  The doctor said I will continue to see them for the next 6 weeks.  He prescribed normal anti-biotics, paracetamol for the temperature, and an anti-histamine for the itching.

How do you assess my case, am I more likely to have HIV than a simple benign Pityriasis Rosea?

Thanks,

onenightinbangkok
