HIV Worry

Recently i checked sugar of a patient ...a lady whose age is about 56 year old.
My worry starts after checking her sugar levels...
As when i put lancet again in its cap to dispose it ...by mistake that lancet prick me ...
No blood was drawn from my thumb.
Is there any concern regarding HIV.
I dont no her status.

The only risks for HIV transmission in adults are:
1) Having unprotected anal or vaginal sex, or
2) sharing intravenous needles.

Nothing else you can think of, including the event you mentioned, would put you at risk for HIV. A lancet is NOT a needle with a syringe.

If you are performing this test on other people as part of your job, you need to talk to your employer about infection control, and about your unfounded concerns about HIV.

Thanks fo4 your reply..although there qas a gap of almost 30 sec or more than that .
No visible blood was there on lancet
I doesn't matter how much blood was on the lancet or how much time had passed.  A lancet is never a risk for HIV transmission.
