Alright. I am a paramedic. I got called to a scene yesterday at 12 for a car accident. 3 patients, While extricating a patient I got his blood all down my forarms and clothes. I didnt realize it was on my shirt all day. I washed up very fast on my arms but I recieved some very superficial scratches from glass. I instantly within a minute washed up changed gloves TON of purel went back to work. I then later worried about it. NO ONE could tell me what to do. We had NOTHING in our policy about exposure. I later called the hospital to atleast find out if the patient had any communicable diseases. They said since we didnt have the patients name they couldnt tell me anything and that they would not prescribe anti hiv drugs. I thought with the ryan white care act I would be able to find out this information. no body can tell me anything and i overheard the doctor on the phone say we only do that for our workers, I'm not going to sign off on anti aids medications. what are my risks since I washed up but it remained on my shirt.
