do i require further testing

As with many others I would like to thankyou for this service you provide. This is my first time posting a question and hopefully my last (no offence!)

Approximately 14 weeks ago i had what i would call a high risk incident with a sex worker whilst travelling through the middle east.

I was extremely intoxicated at the time (no excuses) and recvd unprotected oral (approximately 30 secs) and commenced protected (condom) penis/vagina sex with an african (possibly) sex worker. During this the condom broke and i withdrew after realising approximately 15-30 secs. Attempted a second time with new condom which also broke upon entering. Withdrew straight away. End of incident.

I completed a p24 test at 7 days post possible exposure, negative result, i completed a second p24 test at 14 days, negative result and completed a further antibody test at 6 weeks, also negative. At this time i believed it was safe to engage with my wife. Approximately 1 week after the results of the 6 wk test my wife and i had penis/vagina intercourse. My wife fell pregnant and attended the doctors approximately 12 - 12.5 weeks after my possible exposure and 5 weeks after our intercourse. A complete blood work was completed on my wife and HIV was negative.

I have read many reviews and threads after finding your website and i am now making myself ill with the prospect that i may have still contracted the disease and worse still passed it on to my wife and unborn child. Each time i get a simple cold or an ache i convionce myself it is the onset of HIV.

Any advice you could offer would be most humbly received. Thankyou

Your risk was close to zero and your test at 6 weeks proves anyway that you did not acquire HIV.  I agree with Teak, however - better safe than sorry.  Since your wife is pregnant, take another test now, don't put your child at risk.  The test result will be negative, without any doubt.

Just because your wife did not test positive doesn't mean you are negative. Not everyone automatically contracts HIV. It's recommended the you test at 3 months and get a conclusive negative test result. You were protected until the condom broke which lowers your risk. It's better to be safe and not sorry.
