Hi so a couple weeks ago i found myself in a sticky situation. I had receptive anal sex with someone whose status was unknown. I asked them and they claimed to be negative ofcourse. But they never really gave me there test results to the point where i got tired of asking and just got tested myself. I was so scared that i got PEP before it was too late. After that I told the PEP dr the specifics of my situation and he said because we used a condom that PEP wasnt warranted and I was taken off PEP with only taking one dosage. At 30 days i took the 4th generation test along with an rna test. Both came back negative. In the middle of 6 weeks i started having symptoms. It started with me waking up with a slight sore throat and then throughout that day it progressed to my nose. By the next day I was pretty sick, bad sore throat and i couldnt breathe through my nose and every time i blew it id have the nastiest green boogers. So I got myself some medicine and started drinking tea with ginger and lemon took a nap and by the same day i was feeling much better and noticeably looked better. But i still had the cold it wasnt like it just diminished. My sore throat was gone but it took me a little while to finally get rid of my runny nose. A couple days in thats when i started to develop a cough. I first got my symptoms the day before thanksgiving and thanksgiving was the day i got really sick then all of a sudden better. So now fast forward a couple weeks later im pretty much all better i wouldve gotten better faster but like a dumb *** ive been drinking beer and smoking weed and im out here in georgia and its freezing cold so thatd always make me worse. But now sometimes when i wake up i have a dry throat and i also developed a canker sore on my gums and im extremely worried. I literally just want this to be over so i guess my questions are do my symptoms sound hiv related? If i took one dosage of pep would that effect my 30 and 31 day results with the tests i took. And is it known for hiv to cause canker sores on the gums. Do i need another test. The reason im scared is because i know we used the wrong lube and idk if the condom broke.
Using a condom, as everyone has said, prevents HIV. You, therefore, had safe sex and HIV is not a concern for you. We all have times in our life where we get a little freaked out with needless worry. But the key is to learn to let it go so it doesn't interfere with life. If you can't let it go, then you reach out for help from a professional but hopefully this will be the end of it for you and you can move on.

Second thing, you caught a cold, which is like one of the most contagious things out there so, no wonder. It's winter, which is when everyone catches colds. All of your symptoms are cold related. There's nothing there that has anything to do with HIV.
Wash your hands more frequently to avoid catching colds and load up on vitamin C and antioxidants during cold and flu season. And most of all, quit worrying about HIV because you prevented it by using condoms.

Thank you for your response. Also forgot to mention that i had a slight fever. And even so do u think me taking the pep wouldve messed with my test results? And what are your thoughts on the canker sore situation?
You were already advised that you did not have a risk. PEP was unwarranted and the contemplation of PEP interference with your result is illogical since you were never exposed to the virus. Your ailments are unspecific to HIV. Please see a doctor for your discomforts. HIV is not your problem.
You had a cold. People get fevers with colds. I always do. I just got done telling you that you had no risk so why are you still asking questions?
Bc of the changes ive had that have never ever happened to me is all. The guy seemed sketchy. I just would like to know in the situation of a risk would 1 day of pep mess with a result yes or no and i am done and will deal with my anxiety without bothering yal
Nvm i am realizing its almost the same as if i took the whole 28 day program and waited a month after but i guess to think one set of pills would be powerful enough to make ever test ive taken negative. Ive accepted nothing is really going to stop my anxiety until i take a 3 month test in 3 weeks. Guess its just something im going to have to deal with i hope im just being paranoid thank you.
Your anxiety is a bit of a mental health problem so you need to see a therapist. You haven't listened to or understood any of the advice here and you aren't making sense, so you need one on one with a professional who can slow down this anxiety and give you a chance to think clearly.
