Thinking 24/7 about HIV!!

Hi all ,

I am 23 year old male , i have 2 questions about hiv transmission ..

1) You all are saying that blood at needle tip cannot remain infectious because of air contact but how IV Drug users got infected Because they Inject drugs into thier VEIN RATHER THAN PULLING OUT SOME BLOOD INTO INJECTION AND AFTER INJECTING DRUGS THEY HAND OVER THE INJECTION TO OTHERS WHERE ONLY BLOOD AT TIP OF THE NEEDLE IS ONLY A ISSUE AND ITS EXPOSED TO AIR ALSO !! SO HOW COME THEY BECOME INFECTED!!??

2) How fast hiv dies or Unable to infect someone when exposed to air ?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRECIOUS TIME AND KNOWLEDGE .

IV drug users become infected because, when they shoot up, they pull back the plunger of the syringe, to allow blood to flow into the barrel of the syringe, so that they know they are in a vein.  When the next person uses the same syringe and then inject the contents, the blood from the previous user gets injected directly into their vein.  The blood remains preserved inside the syringe, because it isn't exposed to the elements.

There is no EXACT answer to this question.  There are NUMEROUS factors that play into the destruction of the virus, temperature, pH, etc.

What is important to remember is that the PROCESS of the virus becoming inactive begins immediately upon exposure to the elements.  The outer shell of the virus begins breaking down right away, and once that happens, it is unable to latch on to the target cells in the receptive partner which would allow for infection.  It is the outer shell of the virus that must attach itself to the target cells.  If that can't happen, the receptive partner cannot become infected.

Therefore, the exact amount of time it takes the virus to become inactive is irrelevant.  As soon as the virus becomes damaged (which is immediate), then it's "game over" for HIV.
