To: Teak, LIZZIE.......anyone: Am I conclusively negative?

I'm a newbie here, writing in from Thailand. I have a question that I hope any of the true HIV experts on this forum (i.e. Teak, Lizzie) can answer for me.

My last unprotected intercourse (with a CSW, which was accidental - my condom broke before I pulled out and realized it) was June 27th.

I got tested on September 30. The test was the HIV 1/2 Antibody ELISA test. The result came back negative. I also had tests for Hepatitis B and Syphillis on the same day - both also came back negative/non-reactive.

My questions are as follows:

1) Am I 100% clear (negative)? I told my doctor that my last risk activity was 3 months ago, and he said that for some people, they need to re-test another 3 months, but because my last risk was 3 months ago - and I did not have any other unprotected exposures since then - I don't need to be tested again. Is that correct?

2) Who are the people that need to test again for another three months (I know there is a certain group, but I need a COMPLETE list of people who belong in this category, please)

3) I had something to eat prior to testing (about 2 1/2 hours ago). Would that have affected the test result(s)?

4) Can I move on with my life?

Teak, Lizzie, Vance...any of you guys can answer, thanks.

* Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusively negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to action by MedHelp. Conclusively negative results or a no-risk situation will be based upon the criteria established by MedHelp’s doctors. Action will be taken as follows:
    * After excessive posting, a warning will be issued by MedHelp
    * Continuing to post regarding the negative result / no risk situation will result in a 3 day suspension
    * Continuing to post upon your return will result in a permanent ban.

Why do some "experts" on some sites I've looked at say that 6 months is when results are the most conclusive? I don't get it.

Sorry, I still can't seem to get this off my chest, despite my negative result at 3 months.

Well how about you both stop worrying, except the fact that your both hiv negative and your test results are 100% conclusive and get on with life. The worrying is over.

Thanks everyone. You really helped me a lot. As I said, these past three months have been a nightmare for me. But now that it's all over, I'll take your advice and move on. It feels like I've been released from prison after a long time, but everything feels so weird for me after having been there for so long, it's going to take a while for me to familiarize myself with my surroundings.

Thanks again.

So it didn't matter that I ate something prior to getting tested for all three diseases?

Sorry if I sound paranoid, it's just that you guys have no idea what I've been going through for the past three months - it all started one night in July when I looked up STDs, including HIV, on the internet - and my fears skyrocketed. Since then, I found myself worrying day and night about my overall health, whether I'm infected with HIV or not...it was nothing but hell. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get HIV out of my head. Everywhere I went, everything I did, all I could think about was HIV. I lost desire in my favorite things, and on a few occasions I had some crazy nightmares. I lost desire in food (still able to eat, just didn't have as much interest anymore), cried myself at times during night, my heart was beating rapidly at times, and two weeks ago, I had a headache and my vision even went out for a few seconds one night while getting up to go to the bathroom!

So my last test was conclusive, regardless of the fact that I had some food beforehand?

You tested 3 months post exposure and your results were negative. Your test is conclusive and you do not have HIV.

getitright is absolutely correct with what he has said.  By all means wait for Teak and Lizzie to answer but I can assure you that they will also say that you are conclusively negative and that none of your other concerns are warranted.
