Nursing student...exposure?

I am a nursing student and the nurse had just drawn blood from a patient on a labor and delivery floor and some had spilled on her blanket.  The nurse who was wearing gloves touched the old blanket and I put a new one over her. I thought I was really careful not to touch anything as I was only putting a blanket over her, but a minute or so later my finger looked a little red...I think it was just irritated but what if it was rubbed in blood? And if it was I don't know if I touched my eyes. Usually if I am going to touch a patient I wear gloves but for putting a blanket on someone I didn't. There is no reason to be nervous, right? I would know if there was blood on my hands and I would have had it on my face if I had touched my face I think. I just get so worried.

As a side note, I do have OCD. Sometimes it just helps to hear what other people have to say.

I'm a very good nurse. I would never indicate to my patient that I was nervous.  Thank you for your answer.

You will not get HIV from touching a blanket. It is not spread through environmental surfaces. My suggestion is that you seek a different profession which will not trigger your OCD as that is not the type of person that anyone would want caring for them.
