HIV test results

Hi, I have been reading the various posts on the HIV forums for several weeks now and working myself up in to a terrible state. I had unprotected vaginal sex in China, exactly 7 weeks ago and 2 weeks after, had a fever for 3-4 days (or high temp), felt nauseous for 3 weeks and stared with aching shoulders around 4wks after potential exposure. Also had a dry throat for 4 weeks (2 wks following exposure), the sore throat was strange, it was very mild and hurt up the sides of my throat but didn't hurt at all when swallowing.

Had antibody tests at 2.5 weeks and today at 7 wks - all negative. Ive tried matching every ache and pain to the symptoms of HIV and I know you shouldn't do this, but its been hard not to do so.

Ive been terrified and even with 2 negative tests I am still worried (i go back on Nov 11th 2010 for 3 month test). I guess I am hoping someone can impart some words of wisdom that may help me feel more confident regarding the symptoms and my negative results to date. I know they are not conclusive, but can I take heart from the results so far?

Many thanks to you all, your are truly an inspirational.

Hi nonofabove,

I can really understand how you feel right now. It is indeed frightening for one to have had gone through a possibly risky exposure and then starting to feel stuffs going on.

But know that symptoms cannot diagnose hiv, only tests do.

What might help you to know is that the majority of people who are truly infected, will generally test positive within 4-6 weeks. Thus, your negative 7 weeks test is encouraging, though not conclusive yet. The chances are, your negative 7 weeks test will not change when you go for your 3 months test.

Wish you all the best for your conclusive, and take care.

May God bless
