Worried HIV

Hello, I as emptying a bin at work into a large industrial bin. towards the end of emptying the smaller bin into the industrial bin I felt a sharp stab in one of my fingers. When I looked at my finger there was a prickle in my finger, I pulled it out and didn't look again at my finger until five minutes later, when I noticed a mark a needle would leave. There was no bleeding, but a little bit of skin missing from the spot. As I know I have anxiety when it comes to health (something I am being treated for) I immediately looked though the bins contents and could not find a needle (but am worried I could not see it because it was a large bin). The next day  there was a red mark around the sore and a very small lump filled with puss, I squezzed it, blood did not come out, but a liquidy substance did. I am worried I have contracted HIV from a needlestick injury set in a public environment. I told the doctor and hbe said it was very VERY unlikely, but ordered a blood test anyway. He said I would have to have blood tests for 2 years to determine if I have HIV (I thought it was only 6?). Is it possibly I have HIV?

That is like asking if a ghost injected you. Impossible for a syringe to just plunge. Also probably a 99% chance that it was not even a needle.

So in over 25 years of HIV your worried that you will be the 1st person infected with HIV from a needle stick outside of an occopational setting. It's not going to happen.

...not sure? I'm not sure how he would make you feel any better telling you too, test out to 2 years either? He won't be able to support that fact that infection occures this way.

Is there any reason my doctor would suggest a blood test?

It doesn't happen outside of occupational settings...unless you share needles for drug use with others who may have HIV
