When you mean they can fail a slight percentage of time, you mean they can break /tear. I hope you are not suggesting that virus enter through the condoms if they have holes not visible to the naked eye? Iam me worried now.
Some STDs can be transferred despite using a condom, because they are transferred by skin-to-skin contact. Some diseases that may be spread even with a condom are herpes, syphilis, HPV, and pubic lice. Condoms provide a significant amount of protection, but not against everything, and they can still fail a slight percentage of the time.
Symptoms are a poor way to diagnose an illness, because many symptoms of STDs are a symptom of something more common, and many STDs will present no symptoms. The only meaningful diagnosis will come from lab test.
But if it was protected, how can I have a chance for other STDs? Isn't condom sex protected sex?
If the sex was protected with a condom you did not have HIV risk. Slight risk for some other STDs might excist. Best is to go and get tested after 6 weeks, urine and blood.
