Home Access Test Buying Questions

I am the type of person who gets embarrassed about certain purchases and if I buy something "embarrassing" I will go to Walmart and then use self-check-out, that way I dont have to deal with a cashier.

Does anybody know if Walmart sells Home Access Tests in their pharmacy area? And if so, are they available to grab right off the shelf or do you have to ASK the pharmacist? I would faint if I had to ask the pharmacist to retreive it for me.

And I should listen to you, as opposed to Dr HHH?

Dr HHH is a well respected expert in the transmission of HIV. He has a research center at one of the best medical universities in the country, the U of WA.

I do listen to him over most of you in here. The only people here I truly trust is Teak and Mike_no only because they seem very knowledgeable about HIV. I know Teak will tell me to wait 13 weeks for my test, but I am going with my 7 week test as conclusive for me and I trust Dr HHH's advice about 6 weeks. If I get paranoid I might buy a Home Access test at 13 weeks.

This is all pending a negative 7-week test, that is.

The OraSure® oral specimen collection device is an FDA approved noninvasive HIV antibody test. This test extracts antibodies from the blood vessels in the mucous membranes in the mouth and IS NOT a saliva test. Like a blood test, OraSure® HIV-1 looks for antibodies to HIV, not the virus itself. The OraSure® ELISA test was FDA approved in December of 1994, and the Western blot confirmatory test was approved in June of 1996. Both the OraSure® ELISA and Western blot tests are approved for physician, medical center, or public health use; it is not licensed for at-home use.

Read what OraSure says about testing. You can't order any oraSure products over the internet. There is only one test that is approved to be taken at home for collecton and that is the Home Access Test.

Home Access says:

Q: How soon do these antibodies show up?
A: In most infected people, the antibodies will show up in the blood within six weeks to 3 months. But in some people, it might take up to six months. This is important because the test cannot detect recent infections. For example, if you became infected in January, you may not test positive until June.

I cant wait anymore. I am driving myself crazy.

Dr HHH says 6 weeks is a good indicator if the test is negative.

I need to know my fate.

Q: How can you tell if someone is infected with HIV?
A: Only with a blood test. A person can be HIV-infected for many years while looking and feeling healthy, with no signs at all of being sick.

Does this my rapid oral test was not reliable since it says on the home access page that the only way is a blood test to find out your status?

I am scared again.

Yes. That's exactly what it says. The FDA was sleeping when the oral test was brought to them for certification....

What?

Before you go out and buy a Home Access Test understand their test.

Those of you in a big hurry to find out your status need to relax and just wait it out. Find something other to do instead of being on the internet.

about 40 - 60 dollars. you can get an express online which you will have results in 2 or 3 days. Otherwise I think it is about a week. Comes with an overnight envelope to ship the sample in. Very easy in my expirience except that the "lance" didnt draw blood for me. I had to take the spring loaded lance apart and stab my finger with the needle to get sufficient blood.
