Hi everyone,

Had recently a rapid hiv(elisa),hcv and syphilis bloodtest done 6 weeks post exposure (3 seperate test tubes).Came back negative for the hiv but have the wait a week more for the hcv and syphilis.
My questions is this; Can the simoultanisly possible exposure to hiv, hcv and syphilis give a false negative regarding the hiv test?
I'm asking cause I red that there is a documented case of 2 healthworkers who tested negative at 3 months but positive at 6 due to co-infection of hiv and hcv infection at the same time. They traced that back using dna reasearch.

Now ofcourse Im a bit freaked out after my intial joy of testing negative for hiv at 6 weeks.

Thanks and hoping for a quick reply from some of the experienced members

My suggestion to you is if you don't like the answers you received here find another forum. That's democracy.

With all do respect, that's no explanation. It was traced back with dna reasearch, what would have been the purpose of alll the people involved to lie?

Tell me teak or anyone?,why isn''t it possible for antibodies in an hiv test to be delayed  when coinfection with hepatitus c  occurs?

Thank u

Ok,but then what was that story about the 3 infected (healthcareworkers I believe) whom even tested negative at 6 but positive at 9 due to the coinfection which they traced back with dna research?

Thanks

does possible coinfection of hiv and hcv cause a delay - NO

Testing was not even needed - You had NO RISK!

Hi,

It was a hoax?C'mmon,3 people,it's been scientificly researched with dna.
It's all so damn confusing, even here on medhelp on this subject...does possible coinfection of hiv and hcv cause a delay(3,6,9? months) on antibodies to show up after a bloodtest?Mine was 6 weeks and according to the specialised std centre a confident result.I was ok with it but then reading about that case and the often conflicting opinions(sometimes even within the medical community) I somehow got into a panic(my risk by the way didnt involve intercourse, needles, swallowing semen or blood being splashed in the eye, just touching, kissing and squeezing some body parts which showed cracked skin with visible blood, not running, and as far as I know me myself didnt had any visible wounds).

The most frustrating thing is that u do the "right"thing;getting tested only to read that because of a possible coinfection(it was a male sexworker so..) all that bloodwork might be useless.

thanks, and hoping for a quick respons

No factors you describe can interfere in your HIV antibody test. Hence, your HIV test at this juncture has been very indicative. I can comment on the other STIs, you might want to take that to the STI forum. A 3 months test will be conclusive for you. A 6 week negative changing ahead is very unlikely though.
