HIV from blood in water

I can't seem to find a definitive answer for this question, and I'm even getting conflicting data on other health websites telling me that I'm at risk and also that I'm NOT at risk. Sites say that HIV is not transmitted through water, but what if there is BLOOD in the water???

A co worker of mine cut her thumb at work and submerged the bleeding cut in water inside of a large sink. The blood was sort of streaming upward and dissolved into the water. I grabbed a paper towel and dipped it in the other end of the sink and gave it to her to place on her thumb. That's when I noticed that I had an open cut on the top of my index finger which was exposed to the bloody water.

I didn't see any blatantly noticeable amounts of blood in the area of water I dipped my finger into but I'm not sure. If she is HIV infected, is it possible that the infected water could have carried the virus into my bloodstream via the cut?

My brother and his friend had relayed that to me. Some said no it can't be passed through water, others have said yes, it is easily transmitted that way.

I'm just confused from all this conflicting info.

How exactly? I've been told that HIV becomes more easily lucid and infectious when added to water, especially if exposed to an open cut.
