ASD

Sir,
I am 38yr old male from,Kerala,India,I underwent for an ASD surgery 17yrs back in 1994. The surgery was quiet normal and successfull and I am leading my life normally like others. But some times I feel pain on my left side and it goes. I had routine checkup till 2 years after my surgery. In 2009 I had a complete checkup including, ECG,ECHO,TMT,and every thing was quiet normal, but from last 3 days I feel stinging pain on my left side of the chest, it feels altrernatively. I don't have any kind of discomfort exclude this. Why and How does this happen? Is it serious or will it make any kind of trouble?Shall I again go for the Cardiologist for a check up, or the last complete checkup on 2009 is enough? Expecting your valuable advice.

Thank you

Regards
S Nair.

Because you have a history of heart problems it may be wise to rule out any chest pain being cardiovascular disorder.  There are number of different cause for the pain.  If it is heart related CAD, the pain would usually happen with exertion and go away with rest.  A sharp pain related to the heart can be due paricarditis (inflammation of the fluid between the heart muscle and the outer covering sac, etc.

Thanks for your question, and if you have any further quesions or comments you are welcome to respond.  Take care,

Ken
