VSD is a ventricular septal defect that describes one or more holes in the wall that separates the right and left ventricles of the heart. The condition is almost always a congenital and the size of the hole would distinquish whether a cure (patch hole) or if the hole is small there may be no need for intervention.
The size of the hole if large becomes an issue as blood from the right side or the heart is shunted to left side. The significance is the right side blood has not been oxygenated and that blood is shunted (goes to left ventricle through the hole) and cause the left side oxygenated to be contaminated and is pumped into circulation that can cause a low oxygen level to heart cells that can be problematic. The cure would be to patch the hole and almost never cause any problems going forward.

ABsolutely. In many cases the problem can be resolved without open heart surgery too, by using special closure device in angioplasty.
