Thank you so much for this explanation, My daughter gave blood at a blood drive and the preliminary screening came back positive for Chagas Disease, we are awaiting more testing.. I pray not. I believe that it is a false positive, we had another EKg done and it came back completely normal. that we are hanging on to. Again, thank you for your time.
Pam~
It's basically to do with the spreading of the electrical signal across the heart. It can be normal in children, some adults (especially if tall and thin) and athletes. Some people are even born with this condition and it presents no health issues.
IF the Cardiologist decides there is an underlying cause for this, and is not considered normal, then further investigation will be required such as an Echoscan and pulmonary tests including the lungs. The issue can be caused by a problem in the arteries which go from the right side of the heart and through the lungs. If blood flow is restricted, then the right side of the heart will enlarge and be a condition known as right ventricular hypertrophy. Blood flow restriction can be caused by clotting, artery disease, or even lung problems. Given the age of 20, I would rule out artery disease, this is HIGHLY unlikely. An echoscan will give big clues about this. However, we really are jumping the gun here to worse case scenarios, I must stress that. Another possible cause can be a ASD or VSD. These are commonly known as a Hole in the heart. This can be between the two top smaller chambers, or the lower large chambers. These are repairable.
What has the Cardiologist suggested? has he/she requested more tests or are they satisfied that the condition is ok in your Daughters case?
