I think they are only stabalised, that the blockage will be managed given its 30% or so. The blockage will not go away, but will be kept under control with the meds. If the meds were to get rid of blockages, the stent makers and medical profession would be in trouble financially due to the resulting sea change it would cause
You can removeblockage with medicine under 70%
The use of medication after finding blocked coronary arteries is one of the mainstays of modern tretment and is commonly used in conjunction with angioplasty or bypass surgery , if these interventions are needed.
A 20-30% block will not normally require bypass or angioplasty and medication will be initiated.
These medications will normally limit the progression of these blocks. It will also be imperative for your friend to make appropriate lifestyle changes. Once cleared by their physician he/she should ensure that they are getting aerobic exercise and maintaining a low fat diet as this also reduces progression of coronary artery disease.
I think your Doctor needs to let us know what magic medicine he has that removes fat from arteries, because it will be worth billions of dollars. Your question about whether it will become a problem in the near future is impossible to answer. In some people, blockages can grow very quickly. I had a blockage which went from zero to 95% in 6 months, and I've had ones which didn't worsen over years. A lot of it will be decided by your lifestyle. It needs to be one of healthy diet, regular exercise and of course low in stress. I'm sorry I can't be more specific but much is still being researched in trying to understand the disease more.
I had asked the doctor whether the 20-30% block in RCA (which he stated in the report) is a threat, for which he had replied that this extent of blockage can be found in a normal person also and that this block would treated through medicine (to remove the fat). Is the 20-30% block safe or is it vulnerable in the near future??
i think the statins are taken/prescribed to avoid further accumulation of fat/blockage
I just wish they would publish the means by which this is supposed to happen. As far as I know, the big problem with plaque is that there is nothing to take away the pure fat. I supposed the calcium in the plaque could be re-absorbed, but then that would leave the vulnerable soft plaque with no protective cover.
Well yes, you hear these comments made by doctors with the proviso that LDL will have to go below 50 for the plaque to be affected. Anybody want to take that many Statins?
I've not heard of any medication which can remove blockages. I have asked many Cardiologists the same thing and they all said there is no such medication known to them. Perhaps your Doctor is under the impression that statins can remove blockages, or parts of them. I have seen some claims but no proof in research which shows total removal. In the cases where the disease was supposedly removed, very high dosages of statins were used. Personally with heart disease on the increase and being the biggest killer, I would have thought the disease would be history by now if a cure exists.
