Missed Heartbeats

I have started to suffer from missed heart beats and fluttering about 6 months ago, it is very scary and like many people have had ECG's done and they are all normal.  The doctor thinks because of my age they are hormone related (menopausal) they are particulary bad at night but the beta blocker that I am on is causing me some insomnia.  I hate taking tablets and I have taken up Yoga and trying breathing techniques as I am sure it is also linked to stress a I have a very stressful job.  Nobody I know suffer from this so hard to talk to people about it.

I don't know the actual amount of skipped heartbeats but they are usually bothersome in the late afternoon and early part of night. Usually I can't feel them in the morning. But you may suggest to your doctor if an increase in toporal could help you further. I don't think anything will really get rid of all of them. That's how I feel. Hope I helped you a little bit.

How many skipped beats are you getting?  My 24 hr monitor showed that I was getting 341 of them.  I am on Toprol XL 50mg and it has helped some, but not enough.  I wonder if I should get my dose increased.  I hate to increase it, but if it helps I guess it would be worth it.

I also have skipped heartbeats. I am on 50 mg of metoporal in the morning and 50 mg. at night. If this helps, I have yet to see proof. My doctor said that I suffer from nsvt (non sustained ventricular tachycardia)  but it is not life threatening. He put me on flecanide, 100 mg per day and I thought that I was going to die but thank God, he took me off. Has your doctor suggested that you wear a heart monitor so that he can see how many skipped beats you have and how often.

Hormones can cause this, and I am going through this also now.  Make sure that you are taking enough of the vitamin B's, which has an effect on the heart.  Also, make sure that you are getting enough calcium and vitamin D.  It is amazing how much better I feel once I have been in the sun for a day.  Beta blockers are for people who have a fast heartbeat and need to slow it down.  My doctor said "No" for me to have Tenormin or generic Atenolol because of the fluttering and irregular beats along with the constant awareness of my heart working and racing at nighttime.  The vitamin B's, calcium and vitamin D is really helping.  I also eat salmon for the omega 3.  Bananas and pototo is a great source of potassium.  I prefer organic (taste so much better).    Hope you are feeling better soon.
