Without medication, I would have chest pain with moderate exercise  such a brisk walk at 3.75 mph...I take a nitrate pill prior to exercise, and I haven't tried exercise without medication for going on 8 years so I don't know my threshold tolerance without medication.  Also. with medication and when I increase my excercise routine, I get leg muscle fatigue before I get shortness of breath or chest pain (angina), but sometimes there is angina (i.e moving the lawn, etc,) and take a nytrogen pill (fast acting short duration) compared to a nitrate.

I HAD heart failure (ejection fraction below 29%) and a stent and medication has revitalized heart cells that were inactive due to low oxygen level.  Enlarged (dilated) heart returned to normal size and the heart's contractility is normal.

For me, angina and muscle fatigue occurs before any shortness of breath.  However, when I was admitted to ER about 7 years ago, I had shortness of breath, fast heart rate, dry cough, hyperventilating when reclined due to lung edema (minor) with congested heart failure.

It is difficult to categorize a specific symptom to a weak heart or normal functioning heart as there are variations on how an individual compensates.  However, climbing 5 flight of stairs without symptoms indicates good tolerance for exertion and no heart problem.  To be certain, a stress test with exertion and rest would record your vital signs during test and provide a more definitive answer.   Hope this helps

Take care,

Ken

You are just supplying raw numbers, and there should be analysis of the data by the echo software.  All the dimensions of heart walls appear to be normal with the exception of septum...That is the wall that separates the left and right side of the heart.

Based on fractional shortening there appears to be some rigidity of the left ventricle.  That is the calculation of the difference between diastolic and systolic diameters divided by diastolic dinension.  Normal is 26% and greater.

Has the test ruled out heart failure (low EF).  I had the symptoms you are experiencing and it was congested heart failure.  When the heart loses some of its contratility there edema (fluids in the lung tissue) and most apparent when reclined as gravity increases the severity.

Another cause for your symptoms can be pulonary emboli (blood clots in the lungs) and/or pulmonary thrombosis (clots in the pulmonary vessel).  I have presented worst case scenarios.  Your doctor with your health history, results of other tests, family history, your lifestyle, etc. is in a better position to provide helpful information

I hope this the information provides information that can help you consult with your dotor.  Thanks for sharing and if you have any further questions or comments you are welcome to respond.  Take care,

Ken
