pain in groin, lower back and above groin 5 days post catherization

I had a cardiac catherization 5 days ago.  i am still extremely sore in the groin, am having lower back pain and some pain above the groin area.  should this be a concern or to be expected at this point.

My Mom had a cardiac ablation 5 yrs ago and still has very tightening hip and groin pain that goes from lower back down to calf. She can no longer stand up straight with equal weight on both legs and has a limp because of the pain and tightening. She has gone to multiple doctors, had an ultrasound & MRI and been given low doses of pain meds but nothing has helped. No blood clot for her but all doctors say everything is normal when they look, it may be some water sitting on her hip. There seems to be no hope in getting the pain taken care of once its there its staying.

Just to add. You can feel pain in the groin area for a few days. I've had more than 6 of these procedures now and sometimes the pain lasted one day, sometimes a week, and sometimes up to three weeks.

During an angioplasty procedure there is a chance that the femoral nerve can have slight damage but usually resolves itself over time. This can take weeks to a year. The angioseal used on the artery after the procedure takes up to 90 days to dissolve and can also put pressure against the femoral nerve. Bruising is to be expected, a major artery was cut for access. You should feel around the incision area to make sure no new lumps have formed. If you feel a lump which is growing in size, report back to the hospital. A lump which doesn't increase in size is normal, this will be the angioseal. If you see any swelling in the leg or foot, feel any pins/needles in the limb then also report to the hospital. When I left the hospital (24 hours after procedure), they drew a line around my bruising. They said if the bruising grows and expands more than 10mm beyond the line, to give them a call.

I just had a heart cath 2 days ago. After they let me get up and walk I did ok for the first few minutes and then my leg acted like it was going to sleep. It kept feeling like my leg was going out from under me. Now I am home and when I walk to the bathroom and back my leg (from cath site to ankle) starts having a tingling pain pretty severe. I told the nurses before I left and they said that they had heard of this happening and it would go away. Do you have any insight into what is happening to me

Some people do end up with some bleeding in the area (hematoma) but it eventually is absorbed by the body and the tenderness goes away. It just takes longer than the average bruise. Again, always watch for signs of infection or increased swelling and bruising that might be a sign of continued bleeding under the tissues.

I had a heart cath two weeks ago and am still in pain in the groin area.   There was some internal bleeding,  Is this normal?

Is there any swelling,  redness or excessive warmth in the area? If so, you need to see the doc. There's always a slight chance of infection. You mentioned that the pain was in nearby areas as well. Perhaps they bruised a nerve during the procedure. That happened during my first ablation (they ran 4 catheters into me - 2 into each groin area). Seems they must have put a little too much pressure on the right side because I was limping around for a month or so. It wasn't horrible, just a dull ache that hurt more when I sat down or walked too long. Of course it went away and I'm fine now but it was annoying.
