One BP reading that is high doesn't necessarily mean you have high blood pressure.  Need to take it after sitting for 15 minutes with a manual pump-up manometer every day or so.  BP fluctuates hourly/daily and is influenced by many factors such as hormone imbalance, fever, and anxiety, to name a few.   A BP  consistently over 140/90 is an indication of hypertension.
As 'vienna13' pointed out there are many ways to lower your BP.

Your first number is high, but not the second. So in my opinion in your age would be better first to try all the blood pressure lowering ways, right food, exercise, yoga breathings, very low sodium diet, caffeine free drinks etc. I don’t know if you need a cardiogolist, in Canada sure you won’t get one for that, but a family doctor would take care of that issue. Again I won’t run to take a medication if I was you, because your second number is perfect.
Also, what did they tell you in the emergency what that was? What kind of illness? Just a seasonal flue/cold or else?
Good luck to you to lower that number!

Hi there, With the history you've given most likely is you do have hypertension. Does any of the family members have it or even your mom and dad, it might run in the family. I suggest you see a cardiologist right away, to have specific tests done so that you too could confirm if you have such. So that you would know if you need to have any revisions on your diet or lifestyle. See your doctor so he could explain further. Godbless.
