why is this?

i have noticed that probably 3 times a day on average. my heart will beat faster and harder than normal. it only lasts about 3 or 4 seconds but it causes me to be short of breath when it happens. sometimes to the point where i have to cough. i have alot of stress. i am a regular drinker. i drink alot of caffeine. but at the same time i wonder if my back injuries could possibly be effecting my heart or lungs in sum way.

You should see a cardiologist regarding shortness of breath, etc.  A back injury shouldn't be an underlying cause of cardiovascular/pulmonary issue.  Your doctor will give you an EKG to determine any heart rhythm irregularities...life style and diet can be a cause as well.  But a doctor should rule out any serious heart problems

Thanks for your question, and if you have any further questions or comments you are welcome to respond.  Take care,

Ken
