I had a mild heart attack in 2005 and was told when they did a heart cath that there are no blockages and that my MI was probably due to coronary spasm. I have been hospitalized repeatedly since the heart attack and have tried all the usual medications such as verapamil, cardizem, imdur, metoprolol, lisinopril, norvasc and magnesium. I do not tolerate cardizem or imdur well. The angina was not controlled until they started me on Ranexa last year because the pain was constant and severe. I couldn't even walk across the room without severe pain. I had another heart cath in 07 where again they found no blockages and said my arteries could not look any cleaner. When I started on Ranexa it was a miracle but recently the angina has returned and I have made one visit to er and one admission to hospital last week. They have increased the Ranexa 500 mg to 2 x a day and I am still having angina attacks mainly left shoulder pain. I have read several articles about L-arginine being used to increase nitric oxide and that seemed to help control spasms. I am currently on Norvasc 5mg 1xdaily, Lisinopril 5mg 1x daily, metoprolol 100 mg 2 x daily Ranexa 500 mg 2x daily, magnesium 500 mg 2 x daily, garlic 1000 mg daily, evening primrose oil 1000 mg daily, simvastatin. I also have sleep apnea and use a cpap machine. I have fibromyalgia and a hiatnal hernia which I take Nexium for. Do you have any information on L-arginine helping coronary spasms.
