This is very high for a resting pulse. Doctors usually do not like to see it get out of the 70's although 50's and 60"s are considered healthy. It sound like you have HBP, and need to see your doctor.
are you worried about something that is causing the high bpm?
how are you taking your pulse? using electronic method or feeling for a pulse?
If you sit still and suddenly move to feel for your pulse, it can jump to 90-100 for a
couple of minutes. During my rehab, my heart would jump to 186bpm within 15 seconds
during exercises and as soon as I sat down it would drop to 80 within 15 seconds.
Rehab nurses found this bpm alarming but my cardiologist said that due to the speed of
reaction and no pain, it showed a healthy, fit heart. From what I could see with the other
patients, there was no two people the same, everyone was different. The AVERAGE person at rest would have a pulse of 68-70bpm. Without bisoprolol mine is 80, with
bisoprolol it is 55-64
using OMRON brand automatic bp machine to check bp and pulse
blood pressure appears normal - avg 111/78
have checked while lying on couch, after driving, getting 117-125
just after waking in morning -- 86
i am 41 yrs, female, overweight at 160lb 5ft 1/2 inch tall
concern is that a few times a year i feel faint without known cause
have injured self from fainting fall twice over last few years
last month, suffered concussion when fainted
got a regular family doctor just last month, tested high on cholesterol
going to go back and ask him about my pulse
told him of my history, but he did not seemed concerned
those OMRON machines are not accurate. In rehab I was constantly told by staff that
my bp was too high and I was constantly visiting the GP. She would use the old method
of stethascope and pump with cuff and every single time it showed my bp as normal.
She warned me that those omron devices are only for a rough guide.
In hospital, to gain an accurate bp, they insert a tube into an artery and a tube into a vein. A special machine calculates the pressure in both sides of the circulatory system.
Cuff readings were always very different from those readings.
I'm not sure of the brand name of automatic BP and pulse cuff I'm using... I brought it to a heart rehab session and the nurse had me sit a while then run my cuff. almost immediately after she ran her pump and stethoscope. My automatic machine was low by 10 for top and bottom number but pretty accurate for the pulse. Either way, have it checked against a real cuff.
Thanks again Ed for replying! Visit to doctor resulted in thyroid test and scheduled for EKG. If they come back fine, he says don't worry. Doc said most likely cause is increased stress hormones building up. I have been under extreme anxiety for 9 months prior to this, so makes sense. Checking thyroid and EKG to be sure.....
