Afib attack triggers?

Ok as most of you know I had a tumor removed from my left atrium in may of this year. I am having Afib both before and after surgery. To be honest I am sick of it. I am very aware of Afib. I can feel it very well. Today I took my dog to the vet and had an attack while talking to the vet. I left the dog there called my wife to get the dog and I drove off the the ER. By the time I got to the ER the Afib had stopped and I was in a normal sinus rhythm. I was there until 930 pm. I missed dinner of course so when I got home I had some Campbell's "Heart Healthy" soup and a blueberry nutrigrain bar. I then drank part of a very cold bottled water. I can remember as it went down I could feel how cold it was. I went into Afib again. It lasted only about 3-5 minutes. Do you guys know of or have any afib triggers? I avoid caffine, don't smoke or drink. I am more or less asking about food and or temperature of food and drink causing it?

I have heard that cold drinks can cause you to go into afib.  I avoid chocolate, large meals, and try to get enough sleep and stay hydrated.  I have to pace myself in activities -- if I get too tired it may bring an episode on.  Are you on medication?  I take Norpace XR and it has kept me out of afib for over a year.  I also take a beta blocker and low dose Xanax if needed, and Coumadin.  Are you on a blood thinner?  I think the triggers are very individual.  My EP says he doesn't think it makes any difference.  I did read that people who practice yoga can cut their episodes in half.  Worth a shot.  Good luck . . . keeping you in my thoughts.

Cold drinks can definitely do it.  That's what happened to me, an ice cold Gatorade was the culprit.  Of course, I had also been binge drinking for three straight nights and I had just worked out and was dehydrated.  Also, I'd just had caffeine so I kind of had the entire gamut of afib risks covered.  Regardless, the ice cold Gatorade chug was what actually threw my heart into afib.

Thanks for the reply Delta, I am on metropolol 100 mg a day and coumadin. My surgeon seems to believe that my afib was being caused by the tumor before the surgery and now is being caused  by irratation from the surgery. I also and battling some paricardial effusion, and post-paricardialtomy syndrome. I am on mortin and colchimine to treat that. I hope that will clear up in a little less than a week.
