Echocardiography report

My echardiograph report said: The anterior mitral leaflet is elongated with perhaps prolapse, but there is no regurgtitation. Trivial tricuspid regurgtitation is seen, without hypertension. All chamber and aortic root dimension are normal. LV wall and septal thicknessare normal. RV and LV systolic function is normal with a normal LV ejection fraction. No regional wall motion abnormalities are seen. The interatrail septum is thin an bows slightly toward the RA,consistent with a mild aneurysm of the interatial septum. No septal defect or shunt is seen. Is this something I should have checked every so often? If yes how often? Can you maybe explain this to me? I have also had blood clots in my lungs when I was 19 years old  and now I am  44 could this have caused all this?

An elongated mitral leaflet is a pretty classic symtom of MVP or Mitral Valve Prolapse and its estimated that over 25 % of the population in the U.S. have this including myself.  MVP unless it is fairly extreme most times causes no symtoms throughout your life but yes Atrial Fib is one of the more common effects.  I agree w. Jerry very much it looks like you're okay and if that was my body i would be pro active with my health and have an echo done annually just to know what your body is doing.  I know that my 3-4 D echo caught it and this was quite some time ago with no probs what so ever .  You didn't say what the docs said in terms of why you had clots in your lungs and that could be caused by alot of things at age 19.  I would just get a "well check up" annually to stay in control of your own life.  Good Luck and Happy New Year

Some details are unfamiliar to me, but my overall reaction is your physical heart is healthy.

Obviously you doctor should tell you how often to do a echo, but I'd think not for at least 5 years.  Why was an echo done this time?  My first was at about age 55 but then only after I developed atrial fibrillation - AFib.

There is nothing in your report that says "blood clots" to me.  A leaky mitral valve, and or an enlarged left atrium could cause period of AFig, and clots, but AFib is heard in the stethoscope and/or  measured with an EKG not an echo.
