tachycardia after ablation

Hi I'm 29 year old female  I had a catheter ablation in 1997 and for several years was symptom free except for an occasional SVT attack never lasting more than a few minutes  when I did go to the E.R. for them I always left being told its nothing more than anxiety.  knowing that SVT is hard to diagnose and cant usualy be detected unless your having an episode at that very moment and even then usualy being treated as anxiety.  For several weeks I,ve been having attacks lasting 30 min or more 2 to 3 times per day acompanied by dizznes sweaty hands and chest pain. it feels like my heart is going to come out of my chest. Ive also had chest pain with no other symptoms.   Knowing that chances are going to the E.R. is only going to get me a diagnoses of anxiety I haven't been wanting to go but my instincts tell me my SVT is back and getting worse every week.  Has anyone experienced SVT coming back after surgery?

They did  EKG, CT and blood work they gave some nitro for the chest pain but as I thought they didn't see anything  but I am meeting with a cardioligst this week and getting fitted with a monitor.  So in the end I got the referal i needed.

Good idea bdame.....i am so glad that you are going...as they say the sqeaky wheel gets the grease and bear in mind that the mantra for an E.R. is treat em and street em...they are only intended to be there for you for a very short period of time....you need to find a good heart doc in your area...maybe you could post what city you are in and some of the other community members could weigh in on who they are happy with...bear in mind that the people in the E.R.are not there for their convenience they are being paid a very decent wage to take care of you so i would straight out tell them that you can't keep going thru this and want the whole gambit of tests to be run on you while you are there to rule everything out and then ask them who they have as their on call heart doc because you can bet that doc knows their stuff if an entire hospital is using him/her to see all ages, walks of life, etc.  Please post back and let us know what they said..if it were me i would tell them i am not leaving until the tests are done and would they treat their mom like this....anything is worth a shot bdame....good luck tonite....

thanks for the great advice  sadly my cardioligst that did my surgey has since retired he was the best doc anyone could ask for.   and since ive been symptom free for so long i dont have a current doc for my heart so im starting new.  I am leaving for the e.r. soon the chest pain has been steady all day and a few small spells of rapid heart rate when cooking dinner i almost fainted  so the signs are there and im going in.  i just need to be patient and realize it took years to solve the problem the first time so i shouldnt expect a imediate solution.    thank you everyone for listining to my issues

I agree with Ireneo 100% on this one...been there done that. i seriously think that the best advice i can weigh in with which should make a huge difference is when you are symtom free for a couple of hours call the doc that did your ablation and go directly to the one that was respeonsible for correcting it the first time because they know your heart and history and you will be so far ahead of the game at that point.  It may simply just be that its time for a little tune up for you and ablations have changed dramatically in all of these years since your last one.  Its a no brainer now and almost nothing is done the same...its so much easier...but like Ireneo said if you are having issues and they are getting progressive time to go to acute care and then i would tell the E.R. doc to CALL your doc while you are there that did the procedure...that should take care of the problem trust me...good luck....

I Had the ablation surgey because i had sever SVT since I was 5 and when i was 16 it almost killed me they had to shock my heart back into rythm I was so happy after the surgey to think I wouldnt have to go through this again.  When i called my insurance company to get a check up they told me to go to e.r. right away  i dont understand why they cant see me otherwise  ( 500$ is alot for a co pay at e.r.) ,  then they would give me a referal if they see somthing but I know they wont, SVT dosnt show up on test like other heart problems.  I guess im going to have to give in and do it there way  the chest pains i've been having almost all day for a few days are becoming very bothersome.

Sounds like you're due to wear a monitor again. Unless they can see how the tachy starts, it just looks like a fast heart beat to them. And they often think it's due to anxiety.

I've had 3 ablations. The first time they were sure they had corrected the problem but it came back. Second ablation they knew it was a bust. Third time round they zapped as much as they could and I'm left with just short bursts of PSVT. Much better than long episodes of it and the atrial flutter was corrected.

When things change in your heart, it's good to go back and let them know.

I have had svt but not after heart procedure just have a bad heart. I don't blame for the E.R. decsion because I have been treated the same way. Those doctors haven't a glue of what we go through. My opinon would go see an E.P. doctor and tell him whats going on he or she would be able to give you the right course to take.
