Update--Sectral may show promise

Hello everyone,
Just wanted to give a little update (I've been outside the country for a funeral).

As many of you know I have high frequency pvcs, and recently have been having many long strings of them in a row, however at an EP visit they couldn't record a single one on EKG.

Anyhow, I've been taking Sectral, and it appears to have stopped the long strings. I still get pvcs, but not at many. This afternoon, I started to get more strings, 4 and 6 pvcs in a row, but I took another 100mg of sectral and within 1/2 hour I'm getting only 6pvcs/minute.

So I'm hopeful that finally something is working.....as toperal, inderal and atenolol haven't.

I never really felt ill, but if the pvcs resulted in a panic-like attack, the nausea, etc came on with a vengeance.  I hated that!  The palps would increase, my HR would increase, adrenaline rush, clammy, nausea....UGH!

You're like a pharmacy tech -- splittling those capsules in half...LOL.

I haven't noticed any side effects with the sectral, unlike the other beta-blockers I've tried which left me so fatigued and dizzy I could hardly function.

However, I am taking only half the prescribed amount. It comes in 200mg capsules (powder granules). I open the capsule and divide the contents into approx. half, and put it into another gel capsule.

This is not suggested, but knowing my history with the other beta-blockers, I did not want to have the same symptoms as they gave me. I thought I would work up if I had to. On at least two occassions the 100mg dose has done nothing for the frequency of pvcs and I've taken the other half. It does then seem to have an effect on reducing them. I think I experience 20 to 30% less. I'm happy with that.

I do have to say that I now often feel very flu like if I get a bad string of pvcs going. I have always felt a little out of sorts with the pvcs, but now I almost feel sick if they get bad. Did you ever feel like that?

Hi Upbeat,

Sorry you had to attend a funeral; hope you are doing OK.

GREAT news on the Sectral...Fingers crossed for continued good luck with the medicine!  Any side effects?  If not, you may be on to something!  Wishing you the best!
