The only thing I can say for sure is that after I had a colonoscopy/endoscopy,  maybe a week or two after is when I had my first episode of a-fib, so I definitely think my vagus nerve got aggravated or stimulated during the procedure...but who really knows?

Dear bobss: I had afib for 13 years until I had an ablation july 19, 2010 and corrected the afib.  Before the ablation, I had 4 colonscopys and never had a problem with my afib or heart rate... I did always tell the docs about my afib before I had a proceedure.... but like I said...never had a problem with the afib  as a result of the colonsopy.  Hope this helps. claytex

Electrolytes??? BP??? That jug junk makes everyone feel awful, even if they don't have palpitations. The vagal nerve controls a lot in your body. My doctors have said that bearing down like your having a BM when you're having palps can help calm them...all in connection to the vagal nerve. I know when I get nauseous or have a stomach bug, my palps are terrible. Like Debbier said, always let your doctor know of any problems you're having or anything new.

The stuff I had to drink the night before did make my arrythmia worse so I had to stop the big jug stuff.  They told me that during the colonoscopy my heart rate stayed around and a little over 100 but it stayed in sinus rythm.  I was so nervous, but did okay.

I was assuming you have only benign stuff. Debbier has good questions. :)

I know a guy who has benign pvcs and pacs and anxiety galore. He was sooo scared about going for a colonoscopy because of his heart. The part he said that was the hardest, was drinking all the stuff the night before because it makes you stay in the bathroom a ton and he felt it cause his palpitations to be worse. His wife was all worried that he would not do the test because he was so worked up and having more palpitations because of his anxiety--he was terrified the meds for the test would cause more issues.  The next day he went in absolute shaking fear,  and everything went very well---Later, he said his anxiety the night before was really the only issue.

Can you be more specific?  Do you have a history of arrythmia's?  If so what kind?  Have you asked your doctor?
