I have had two ablations done. One in 2008 and one in early 2013. My symptoms are back with a vengeance and my doctor is trying a new meds and increasing the dosage. He said if that does help then we will talk about have the monitor place in my chest. I can not wear monthly monitor due to the sticky pads due to allergic reaction. Last time I was supposed to wear it for 4 weeks and only last one week with it. Does it hurt after they put it in and for how long. I know everyone is different.
My boyfriend had this done in April. It was outpatient and he went home the same day. He was back to work in 4 days. There was about a 2 inch incision. It was very sore of course for about a month. Now it only hurts when it gets a good bump. Every once in a while he gets what he calls a "funny feeling" in that area but I think it is still healing. You will be able to see where it is implanted. It is about the size of a Bic cigarette lighter. He had an ablation for SVT and a year later developed an arrythimia. It is set to record when his heart rate gets above or below a certain rate. He also has an external device that he can put up to the monitor to make it record if he feels he is having some type of event that would not otherwise record. He has a device that he puts to the monitor to transmit the recordings over the phone so he doesn't have to go to the office. They send him a letter with what they found, if anything. I know is has put his mind at ease to have it. I wouldn't be worried about doing it. It has not hindered his activities at all.
I am getting the implantable monitor for a couple of reasons. I have had an ablation for SVT and have continued to have palpitations. I am allergic to the EKG stickers, so cannot use the 30 day monitors. I have a device at home that allows me to download the recordings and send them to the office as often as necessary to be read. I have to go into the office to have the monitor cleared every 2-3 months. Thanks for your response.
Sorry you haven't found anyone with some experience... I don't recall ever reading about your question on this Community.. maybe more time will bring someone to your post. So, I bump your post to the top and hope you get some experiential help.
Can you share with us why you are wearing such a long-term monitor? I, and many others on the Community, have used the several day external monitor ... seems you are trying to find something that occurs very rarely, or is it something that will warn of an oncoming problem? How and how often is it read-out?
