fast heartbeat long after done exercising

Why is it that it takes hours, sometimes 4-5 hours after done exercising for my heartbeat to go down?
Sometime it is still over 100 3-4 hours after I'm done.

Any help would be appreciated.

When I was 21 years old I had really high blood pressure with palpitations for 2 years then one doctor told me I had alot of stress and I needed to exercise so one afternoon I played basketball for about 3 hours and that night when I went to sleep my heart rate would not go down at all so I finally fell asleep about 2 hours later, the next day I told myself I would not play basket again but that afternoon my friend kept telling me they needed one more person so I played again for about 3 more hours but the same thing happened at night, my heart rate wouln't go down, on the fourth day of playing hard for about 3 hours I noticed my heart rate was really normal and as soon as I hit the pillow I was asleep and for many years I felt great (of course I would be playing almost everyday).

Have you just started working out recently?

This could be due to deconditioning, apparently. Talk to your doctor and take it down a notch.

Have you ever mentioned the elevated HR to your doctor?

It may be normal for you, but because it is on the high end of "normal" it would probably be a good idea to have it checked out.
