Well my thousands of PVCs decreased back to their normal level of <50 per day a few days after the virus. However the day after xmas I had some kind of sustained arrhythmia for the first time and boy was it horrible. I bent over whilst playing with my daughter and my heart suddenly started quivering and my throat fluttering and my pulse jumped up to around 150. Sometimes I get bursts of this for a couple of seconds and I had always assumed it was short runs of nsvt. However this time my heart got stuck in this rhythm for 2 full minutes. I didn't feel dizzy (just terrified!) and was able to walk whilst this was happening ( I was looking for a watch with a second hand to take my pulse). My sister in law said as soon as I walked in she could see the veins in my neck pounding rapidly in and out.
I was worried at the time that I was experiencing sustained VT due to the feeling of cannon A waves in my throat (same as I get with my PVCs). However I've been reading up on SVT and apparently this is a classic symptom of AVNRT as are the pounding neck veins. Off to the cardiologist next week. I expect he'll give me an event monitor. I dread it happening again but it would be good to catch it on tape.
While I was actually ill in bed my heart rate was consitently very high (110-120) and was pounding but I didn't feel a single PVC. It was only the next day when my heart rate returned to normal that the PVCs started.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply to my post. I hope you all have a palpitation-free xmas.
I always have them worse during and after illness, especially stomach issues.
I think Artaud makes (another) good point about elevated pulse...if I get sick and get PVCs it tends to be if I have a fever, which always causes my pulse rate to go up...if I get PVCs its usuqally during the illness, not after... but God made no two PVC sufferers alike...lol...
Hi,
The Dream Stuff, I know it well. It's bad enough to have them while awake, but if you have them while sleeping and it's incorporated into your dream, talk about pouring salt into the wound.
PVCs when I'm sick, does the sun rise in the morning and set in the evening? I suspect that when you are sick, your pulse is higher than normal. Take your pulse while at rest over the next couple of days and write the results down. Record the time as well.
After you recover, again take your pulse over several days, same time and conditions. I think you'll see that you had an elevated resting heart rate while sick. I had suffered one day at work, all day, with an unusual number of PVCs. I finally became concerned and had phoned for the In-Plant Ambulance and EMTs. Before they arrived, I realized that my pulse, normally 60 at rest, was in the 70s while resting. I took 1/4 of a 50mg Atenolol that I carry. By the time the EMTs arrived, most of the PVCs were gone. Several minutes later at the plant Medical Center, after being hooked-up to an EKG, I had no PVCs. I was embarrassed about being transported to the Medical Center by Ambulance, but relieved that the PVCs were gone.
Happy Holidays and the Best of Health to you and yours.
Thanks for your reply dolfnlvr. I was having them in my dream before I woke up with them so I must have been able to feel them in my sleep. No rest from the annoyance! I dread stomach bugs as my electrolytes get unbalanced easily so vomiting has always given me palps, even before I had chronic problems with PVCs.
I get the annoyed part. Totally. That's what these things do the most after you realize you'll live. Anyway...to answer your question. I often notice the PVC's being worse upon RECUPERATING from an illness. I'm not sure why. One could speculate, but definitive thoughts are elusive. If I have a stomach virus, I ALWAYS suffer from episodes of SVT. Therefore, getting a stomach bug is among the worst experiences in my life. When I have any illness that runs me down...makes me tired, or wears me out I suffer from increased PVC's for weeks. Even after I feel back to normal.
I gained nearly 8 lbs last year. Because when I suffer increased PVC's I always feel like I need protein, and I tend to stop exercising when it is exactly the opposite of what I should do. I wonder why increased PVC's makes us think we need to eat more? Hmmmm.
