Sppc2k,
Test your girlfriend for anti-hbc, then you will know for sure if she needs to monitor her HBsAb level or not.
Take the test and get back with the respond.
yup.. I know.. "I am" one of those people
Hmm.. seems logical.. that means she is safe for now and we can continue our relation as earlier.. However, I will continue with the tests on a 6 month interval..
Just curious to know, is there any proven treatment to completely eradicate the virus from my system?? Doctors here have told there is none, and the body may clear it over time
also it is not a rule that if you get in contact with the virus, you develope jaundice, there are people who find out that they have hepatitis B virus when they are already chirotic, so you can have the virus and got no sign at all
If a person responds to HBV vaccination, that is, developed HBsAb > 10 miu/ml after vaccination, then that person is considered to have immune protection for life, even though the level of HBsAb may wane over time. This is related to the concept of immune memory. As you can see from the high level of HBsAb level of your partner, it is my opinion that she had been exposed to the HBV and her body automatically rammed production of HBsAb to protect her from getting infected.
You may have low hbvdna now, but it may not have always been the case, so she may have been exposed in the past.
If you are really keen to find out whether she has been infected and then fully recovered, you can have her HBcAb tested, this is a marker of previous infection.
There are millions of married couples with one partner being chronic HBV and the other never infected.
Hi, thanks for the reply. She took the vaccine some 12-14 years back. She has never contracted Jaundice in her life so I don't think she ever had an acute infection. Should I also check for HBeAG and ABeAB to find out??
Moreover, since my HBV DNA count is so low, and her Anti HBs count is so high, what are the chances of me transmitting the disease?? She is around 25 years old. Is there any specific AG to AB ratio for someone to get infected by any particular disease?? I am confused. Plus I had the notion that vaccination creates induced immunity for life (is it true that protection lasts for only 5 years or so as suggested by you??)
