Why ETV+TDF is used even after getting resistant to ETV monotherapy?

If a person gets partially/fully resistant to ETV(may be after lam. resistant) why is it not stopped and switched to TDF directly?Instead I find most of the doctors add TDF to ETV and continue with their treatment.....Can anyone explain what is the use of etv. at this point of time? Will TDF help to remove the resistance and both the drugs will start working normally?

because etv is still active on many strains except those resistant for which tdf will work, after sometime stable on the combo yo may go tdf only, maybe they keep the combo to avoid any possible mutation of resistance to tdf too, etv will protect you from that being active on tdf resistance strains
