Hi Ziffy.
Aircraft cabins are pressurized to about 8,000 feet. That's about the altitude where I live (which is in the mountains of the U.S.) and I can assure you there is much less oxygen at 8,000.
You can expect your anemia side effects to be enhanced while you are flying. Please be aware of this if you are planning to fly!
When you go to the doctor, does he/she measure your Oxygen Saturation Level? My doctor measures it by affixing a device to the tip of my finger for less than a minute. What is your O2 saturation level in your doctor's office?
Here is a link that provides more information about aircraft pressurization. Cheers, GB

Only 2 more weeks to go...the blood transfusion will probably make you feel better...I hear the last few weeks can bee the hardest, I've seen it more then once on here....your so close to the finish line, but so sick and tired of feeling sick and tired...just take 1 minunte, 1 hr, 1 day at a time...maybe your doctor can move up the blood transfusion? You should let your doc know how bad your feeling, maybe he can help move things along...
Ah, I wish your HGB hadn't slipped so low, that sounds so hard. I think you will feel alot better, after your blood transfusion, though.
Is your trip to Italy scheduled for after the blood transfusion? If it is, then a short trip might be okay, but I know sometimes people have had to have 2 a week, etc, so the whole situation of traveling sounds dangerous, because your HGB is so low.
Did your Doctor prescribe Procrit for your anemia, before it was so low? Hang in there...easy for me to say though, I am only on week 9~
Interferon can cause depression. Stay aware of this.
Right now you need to focus on your health. That is your job, everything else goes on hold.
After treatment is over, your hair will grow back, the crying jags will stop and you will slowly regain your strength.
Keep drinking lots of water, taking walks, breathing fresh air and know that in time you will feel better.
Oh
I can only say that I know how you feel when it comes to hgb being low. I had my 4th bloodtransfusion yesterday (am in treatment week 15 with Victrelis). I know how low you feel right now. What I can tell you, is that you will feel amazingly much better right after the transfusion!! I promise you, it's like night and day! Right after I get the transfusion, I feel like my old self again. It's a great feeling and a wonderful relief. I assure you, most of my problems in tx, is caused by the low hgb. It makes me feel depressed and I cry for nothing all day and argue with my husband etc etc. But as soon as the hgb comes up again, the sun shines...for some days.
I'm in for transfusions every second week and have some good days between the transfusions.
I really hope they will give you this as soon as possible. It will raise your spirit to fight this and go till the end of treatment.
I really hope you get to Italy to visit family and have support around you (I have Italian blood aswell, my father's family is from Italy).
Good luck and wish you all the best! Go and get blood!
Dont give up if u have only 2 weeks to go get the help u need to finish . God bless you and heal u and give u aded strength now .....take care .

Hang in there, Ziffy you are almost there. When it passes and your health is restored, you will be strong and beautiful again. It is just a bit more. Ask your medical professionals to help you get through this last bit. You have come so far, you can do it.
You are in my prayers.
Hi Ziffy1,
Please don't stop your treatment. You are 22 weeks into treatment and I think you have only 2 weeks left. The temptation to quit may be strong but try to hold on. A friend of mine wanted to quit early and she was given some very valuable advice. They told her that it would be like serving a six month jail sentence and breaking out of jail two weeks prior the release date. The potential consequences are just not worth it at this point. However, you said you don't the blood result from this morning. I assume then that you have seen your doctor and had your blood tested this am. Also you are scheduled for a blood transfusion next week? That should help you. Also if your Hemoglobin is too low for you to fly call the airline. Ask for a supervisor and tell them how ill you are. I think there is a good possibility that you will not lose your ticket if you can not fly due to illness. You are at a difficult point in your illness and as we all know -it may effect your decision making ability. Please try to hang in there! As for your big concern about getting back to normal- I think you will. I am 5 mos. post treatment and doing great. Yes most of my fell out but it comes back. I cried a lot too. It takes some time for the drugs to get out of your system but things just get better and better. I look and feel better than I have in years. I think you will too. :0). Let us know what happens with your blood work and the airline. Take care,
G
