Thank You Community. Yes copyman I will be testing. Thanks for your help, best wishes~
Copyman is right. Your risk of getting Hep C from a one time sexual encounter is extremely low.
My husband was infected with Hep C by blood transfusion in 1979. We did not find out he had it until 2010. We had unprotected sex for over 30 years. No special measures were taken to protect me from getting the virus because we simply did not know he had it. Yet I have been tested twice and both tests found me negative for Hep C.
Hope that sets your mind at ease at least about your exposure to Hep C.
Nan
The risk from what you describe is extremely low. There have been couples married for many years and one partner never transmitted virus to other. You could have another STD from what you describe but not HCV. Get tested anyway for peace of mind.
It is not that important to "catch detection" early with HCV. It is a slow moving disease sometimes taking 20 or 30 years to cause liver damage.
best of luck
Now thinking about it, I am wondering if I should just test now at 9 weeks. If I am positive for hep b or c, isn't best to catch detection early? Is 9 weeks an appropriate time for testing, both "b" and "c" ? Thank You.
I should add, We only had unprotected sex once but it lasted for about 15 minutes. Is the risk relatively high? I know a blood test will be the only sure way to know. I plan to do a test at 16 weeks, I am choosing 16 weeks because I am getting a 8 panel std testing. It will be testing my blood for herpes, hep b, hep c, and syphilis. Herpes takes 16 weeks to be conclusive, so that is why I am waiting till then. Thank You.
