exposed to blood stain=hepatitis?

hi doc,

earlier today I sat on a bed in my hotel for around 10minutes before I realized there were small amount of blood stains exactly on my sitting spot. I am guessing it's dry. I am not sure whether the stains were there before I sat on them or not. at the moment I also have some problems with acne on my butt which is exposed to the fabric where I sat. I cannot decide whether the blood stains were from the acne or were there earlier. I am anxious right now. If the stains were there before, how much possibilities of hepatitis c or hiv transmitted to my body? I am afraid the acne was open, left my wound exposed to the stains. Should I get tested? ps. the blood stains were small, the biggest one I think was only 1-2mm?

thanks.

We here are not doctors but rather a community of patients who are dealing with hep c infection and it's aftermath.

Hep c requires blood to blood to be transmitted. Even in the case of health care workers who experience an accidental needle stick involving a patient with known hep c infection the odds of transmission are around 1.8% so your odds would be proportionally less.

Is it possible the blood stains were from you? Were they even blood stains could they have been small rust stains that sometimes happens with old linens. I am sure the sheets are changed between hotel guests.

Basically in my opinion I think your odds of contracting any blood borne illness from the situation you have described are very small to the point of being non existent.

Have you considered you may have anxiety issues? Have you discussed you excessive worries with a doctor? There are medicines you could take to help reduce worrying about medical problems that have a very low probability of affecting you. That is likely you greatest health problem affecting your quality of life rather than the very low odds of contracting hep c.

Good luck to you
